Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi has received the European Golden Shoe award for the fourth time on Friday.

The award is given to the highest goalscorer in Europe each season and the Argentine is the latest recipient after he netted 37 goals in 34 matches last season.

He beat Sporting Lisbon’s Bas Dost (34 goals), Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang (31 goals) and Luis Suarez (29) to the award.

Messi has now won on four occasions – in 2009/10 (34goals), 2011/12 (50 goals) and 2012/13 (46 goals) – equalling the record of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

“As I have progressed off the field, I think I have also done so on the pitch.

“I have improved and added things to my game and I enjoy myself more and more every day as a player,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Messi is currently on top of the scorers’ charts in La Liga this season, with 12 goals in 12 games.
