Metuh: Court dismisses ‘no case submission’

Olisa Metuh hospitalised

Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, Wednesday failed in his attempt to stop his trial before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Justice Okon Abang, while ruling on the no case submission of Metuh, said the PDP national publicity secretary has a case to answer in the criminal charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Justice Abang, however clarified that his ruling does not imply that Metuh had been pronounced guilty, but that he would have to make his defence

Continuing, the judge held that Metuh needed to offer an explanation to the evidence brought before the court, adding that there was need for him to offer explanations on how he received and disbursed the money given to him by the office of the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki.

Justice Abang therefore dismissed Metuh’s application for lacking in merit.

It will be recalled that the EFCC had dragged the PDP spokesman before the Federal High Court on a seven count charge of criminal breach of trust and money laundering to the tune of N400 million. He was detained for more than ten days before he was charged to court, with the court granting him bail afterwards.

However, Metuh said he is innocent of the charges and that he only received the sum of N400m from the office of the former NSA to carry out media campaigns for former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has come under intense criticism over what many believe to be a lopsided prosecution of the anti-corruption war of the administration. Though the administration have defended the prosecution of the anti corruption war, the bulk of those who have been arrested and under trial are either leaders of the opposition PDP or their known sympathizers.

Metuh must have been naive to think he would be left off the hook that easily. Maybe he has forgotten that it is Bubu that is in charge and not Jonathan. He must be prepared for a long walk. Welcome to Buhari’s new Nigeria
