MEXICO DRAW: It was not the result we wanted -Ronaldo

After a ‘disappointing’ 2-2 draw for the Euro champions against Mexico in their opening game at the ongoing Confederations Cup in Russia, Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo says his side are calm and are focused on the next game.

The Real Madrid star, who made a superb assist in the opener, believes that his team will qualify for the semifinals despite securing an ‘unwanted result’ in the opening game of the eight-team tournament.

The 32-year-old assisted Ricardo Quaresma in putting Portugal ahead on 34 minutes before Javier Hernandez equalised with a low header for Mexico.

Cedric Soares’ 86th-minute shot was deflected in as Portugal appeared to be heading for three points, but Hector Moreno was able to snatch a point for the mexicans in the 91st minute.

“It was not the result we wanted,” said the four-time Ballon d’Or winner.

“The team had almost won and we suffered in the last minute, but this is football.

“We still believe in qualification, we have great possibilities, because there are still two games left.

“We are calm and we have to think about the next game.

“We have to win, because if we win the next game we will be one step away from qualifying.”

Portugal and Ronaldo will take on hosts Russia in Moscow in their next Group A fixture this Wednesday, and a win would be enough to see them occupy top spot in the group.
