Mexico threatens retaliation if Trump goes ahead with tax for controversial wall

Authorities in Mexico are threatening retaliation should American President Donald Trump go ahead to impose border tax to pay for the controversial wall which is causing friction between both countries.

Stating the resolve of its government to retaliate if Trump goes ahead with imposing border tax for the controversial wall, Mexico’s foreign minister Luis Videgaray said his country would respond to any tax levied by the US and that they did not actually need financial help.

Videgaray warned that Mexico will not hesitate to impose levies on select goods aimed at US regions most reliant on exports south of the border, such as Iowa, Texas and Wisconsin.

“Without a doubt, we have that possibility and what we cannot do is remain with our arms crossed”, Videgaray said during a radio interview.

Continuing, he added that; “The Mexican government would have to respond.”

Proposals are already being sought for the design of the wall which has dominated Trump’s post-election speeches in which he constantly reiterates his promise to build the barrier which will separate his country from its southern neighbour.
