Middle Belt group wants Interior minister Dambazau to resign

A group, the Middle Belt Union has called for the resignation of Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau.

The union stated that he has shown that he is completely incompetent in handling the incessant killings by Fulani herdsmen/militias in Benue State, other places around the Middle Belt region of Nigeria, and Zamfara State in particular.

The MBU in a release on Thursday by George Onmonya Daniel, it’s Secretary/Spokesperson lamented that “This is simply unacceptable”.

It said, “Retired Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau’s handling of these issues and utterances of some of the head of security agencies shows that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration are obviously on the side of the Fulani herdsmen and supporting them.

“How can a former General in the Nigerian army not be able to do his job of handling internal security of the nation and has been even careless about the situation? This is not rocket science. Why has the security not been ordered to fish out perpetrators but instead all of the bosses of the security apparatuses are telling Nigerians that grazing land or colonies must be given to the Fulani herdsmen?

“Being the Minister of Interior we believe it is the responsibility of Mr. Dambazau to be at the forefront of dealing with the internal security of the nation, but we haven’t seen any effort.

We are appealing to the members of the House of Representatives and Senate to join us in summoning the Minister of Interior to ask him to quietly step down. He has failed as Buhari has failed the nation”.
