Mikel backs Obobona, Ambruse to cage Egyptians

Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi, has backed the duo of Godfrey Oboabona and Efe Ambrose to curtail the Egyptians when both teams clash in a 2017 Nations Cup qualifier on Friday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Mikel hinged his confidence on the experience of both players while ruling out any form of panic following the injuries to Leon Balogun and Kenneth Omeruo who have been ruled out of the back-to-back qualifiers billed for March 25 and 29.

Omeruo who plays for Kasımpaş in Turkey and Balogun who plays for Mainz in the Bundesliga are both struggling with injuries.

“No, we have Oboabona here, Efe [Ambrose] is here, we have quality players here,” Mikel said.

“It is always not nice when you miss players who are very important to the team but at the same time we have players who can do a good job, so I think we are quite ready,” he said.

Corroborating Mikel’s view, Eagles captain and CSKA Moscow striker, Ahmed Musa, said that the players were only aiming for a win on Friday.

“All the rest of the players have what it takes to do well. We are going to do our best to get what Nigeria needs and that is victory.

“We have players who can do the job on Friday,” Musa stressed.
