Team captain John Mikel Obi will today lead the full squad of the Super Eagles against the Three Lions of England as they go head-to-head in a pre-World Cup friendly at Wembley.

It’s a return to familiar ground for the Tiajin Teda of China midfielder who was at Chelsea for 11 years, during which he won three English FA Cups finals played in Wembley.

Mikel leads a squad consisting of Francis Uzoho, Shehu Abdullahi, Bryan Idowu, William TroostEkong, Leon Balogun, Ogenyi Onazi, Joel Obi, Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses and Odion Ighalo.

Having missed the friendlies against Poland, Serbia and DR Congo, Mikel is proud to be back to wearing the captain band as they go into an encounter he believes is a big test for the Super Eagles ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

”I am very proud to be leading this team and it is big honor for me,” Mikel told newsmen in London on Friday evening.

“Seeing the England team is a strong team and everyone is pushing to play, we believe that tomorrow (today’s) game is a big test for us,” he said.

Speaking about the World Cup finals where the Super Eagles will play Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in the group stages, the skipper admitted that the group is “a hard group” but that the team “will take each game one at a time.”

“The team is under no pressure, but we are confident of making history in Russia,” he stated.

“We want to make history, we are underdogs and we believe we can go far than we have been before in the previous World Cups.

“I always try to pass the message from the coach to the team. There is great enthusiasm in this team and we want to achieve great things together.”

The squad will afterwards be trimmed down to a final 23-man that will represent Nigeria at the World Cup.
