Mikel Obi’s contract with Trabzonspor terminated by mutual consent

Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has by mutual agreement, terminated his contract with Turkish club, Trabzonspor.

The club announced on Tuesday that they have mutually agreed to part ways with the former Chelsea star.

Although no reason was given for the termination of the agreement, Mikel had stated he does not feel comfortable that the Turkish topflight was still on despite the Covid-19 outbreak.

“The professional football player agreement between our club and John Obi Mikel on 30.06.2019 start date of 31.05.2021 has been mutually terminated,” the club said in a statement.

“With the mutual termination agreement, the football player has given up all his forward-looking receivables.”

Mikel, who joined Trabzonspor last year, departs the club after making 27 appearances in all competitions, including five in the group stage and qualifying rounds of the Europa League.
