Mikel scores first goal for Chinese side Tianjin TEDA

Super Eagles skipper John Mikel Obi scored his first goal for Chinese Super League side Tianjin TEDA to spur them to their first win of the season against visiting Chongqing Lifan on Sunday.

In the game which ended 2-0, Mikel put the home side ahead in the 48th minute, before an own goal from Chongqing Lifan’s Goran Milovic in the 82nd minute sealed the win for Mikel’s side.

After drawing and losing their first two games of the league season, Teda secured the morale-boosting victory as they face Guizhou Zhicheng in their next league encounter.

Also in action for Tianjin Teda on Sunday was Mikel’s Nigerian teammate, Brown Ideye, who was making his second league appearance at the club he also joined in January.

However, while 29-year-old Mikel was on parade for the entire duration of the game, Ideye was replaced in the 65th minute by Dong Wang, as he fired blank.

The win means Tianjin Teda are now eighth in the league table on four points.
