Super Eagles forward, Ahmed Musa has backed his national team mate and captain, John Mikel Obi, to greatly influence his new English Championship side in their quest to earn promotion back to the Premier League.

The Eagles captain, formerly at Chelsea, returned to England this January and joined the second-tier club as a free agent after quitting his Chinese Super League side, Tianjin Teda, where he plied his trade for two years.

Musa, who has been under the captaincy of Mikel at the international scene, is certain that Mikel has what it takes to inspire his new club to the top tier of English football.

“Mikel did not make mistake joining a championship side because I am sure he would lead the club straight to the Premier League,” Musa was quoted by CSN.

“Mikel has a winning aura and I believe this will rub on the entire Middlesbrough team in their fight to gain promotion

“I believe Mikel saw the potential in the club before agreeing to join them and with a manager like Tony Pulis in charge, they will fight to be among the promoted clubs at the end of the season,” added Musa.

31-year-old Mikel already made his debut for Middlesbrough in their 1-1 draw against Newport in the English FA Cup last weekend.
