Military in panic mode over Buhari's Arms Panel report

The Presidential Committee on Defence Equipment Procurement in Nigeria’s Armed Forces is said to have indicted several top army officers in the report it will be submitting to President Muhammadu Buhari in the coming days.

According to monitored reports, officers involved are already agitated with some making serious moves to surpress the report.

According to the online report, the committee, which was set up by President Buhari to look into the procurement of arms, ammunition and equipment in the military from 2007 to 2015, are fixing the report together and will soon present their findings to the President.

Some of the findings of the committee the source say are reckless stealing of fund meant for equipment for the army, inflation of contract, confiscation of money meant for soldiers’ welfare, fund for the rehabilitation of barracks and military facilities among others.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement then said stated that the investigative committee’s mandate was to investigate and point out irregularities and ultimately make recommendations for streamlining the procurement process in the armed forces.

The report listed the following top army officers to be among those who have case to answer; present minister of interior, Abdurrahman Bello Dambazau, the immediate past chief of army staff, Kenneth Minimah, and his predecessor, Azubuike Ihejirika.
