Sen Adeleke, 4 others arraigned for exam malpractice

Embattled Senator Ademola Adeleke may have more battles to fight in court after two persons identified as Akinwale Olaniyi and Akinjide Monsuru, filed an application seeking his disqualification as the lawmaker representing Osun West Senatorial district.

Among the many demands in the suit filed by the pair on Friday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the nation’s capital, include a demand put to the court to restrain Senator Adeleke from further parading himself as the lawmaker representing Osun West senatorial district in the National Assembly.

The claimants in the suit pursuant to Section 65(2)(a) of the 1999 Constitution, and the judgment of a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Bwari, delivered on April 2, 2019, also prayed for an order of the court directing the lawmaker to refund all salaries, allowances, and other emoluments he had received as a senator.

No date has been fixed for the case to be mentioned, and listed as respondents in the suit are Senator Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Nigerian Senate, the Senate President, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The development comes a day after the Appeal filed by Senator Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Osun State in the September 2018 governorship election, suffered a setback on Thursday owing to improper service.

Adeleke is praying the court to overturn the decision of Justice Othman Musa of the FCT High Court in Bwari, Abuja, which invalidated his status as the party’s candidate on April 2.

Recall that Wahab Raheem and Adam Habeeb, of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had dragged Adeleke to court for not possessing the requisite educational qualification.
