OFFA ROBBERY: Police nabs more suspects, recovers arms

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) on Wednesday claimed that more suspects from the Offa, Kwara State bank robbery have indicted Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, who disclosed this when he addressed newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday said that two more suspects arrested in connection with the robbery indicted Saraki in their confessional statements.

This was as he said that the Senate President was still under police investigation over his relationship with the suspected armed robbers, who had on April 5 killed over 30 persons including eight policemen during a deadly robbery in Offa.

According to the force spokesman, the arrested suspects claimed that they are political thugs for the Senate President and that they had accompanied Saraki to the palace of the traditional ruler of Offa, Olofa of Offa on a condolence visit, soon after the robbery incident.

Earlier on Sunday, five of the arrested suspects had allegedly made similar claims of being political thugs to Saraki, and Kwara State’s Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Moshood told newsmen on Wednesday that the five suspects paraded on Sunday had also claimed they celebrated with Senator Saraki during his daughter’s wedding.

The gang leader, Ayoade Akinnibosun, meanwhile has maintained that their relationship with Saraki ends as being his political thugs, adding that the former governor does not know that they are into armed robbery.

But Saraki had on Sunday denied knowing the alleged robbers or having any link with criminals.
