Morocco fights back, thumps Togo 3-1 at AFCON

Morocco fought from a goal down to beat Togo 3-1 at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations to ensure they have control of their fate as they go into their final group game, after Ivory Coast drew 2-2 with DR Congo on Friday.

Barely five minutes into the game, Mathieu Dossevi put Togo ahead with a low shot, but less than seven minutes later, St Pauli forward Aziz Bouhaddouz headed in the equaliser.

Wolves’ Romain Saiss nodded in the second goal for the North Africans in the 21st minute with which they stayed ahead past half time; until the 72nd minutes when Youssef En-Nesyri fired in the third to complete the scoreline.

Togo skipper Emmanuel Adebayor went close to scoring twice, but was denied by goalkeeper Munir Mohan Mohamedi, who have conceded two goals in this competition.

The north African side are now second in Group C with three points, one point more than third place Ivory Coast, who they play in a crucial last match.

Group C remains open for the top three teams. Morocco now only need a draw in their last match against Ivory Coast on Tuesday to reach the quarter-final, while the Elephants need a win.

Whereas, Togo will face a daunting task in advancing to the last eight, as they must beat leaders DR Congo by two goals, lest they are out of the championship
