Moses, Mikel wreck Algeria as Nigeria top group

The Super Eagles proved their mettle as one of Africa’s best on Saturday with Chelsea duo of Victor Moses and Mikel Obi inspiring Nigeria to a an 3-1 victory over the Fennecs of Algeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Basking on his current form for Chelsea, Moses scored Nigeria’s first goal in the 26th minute with a low shot pass Algeria goalkeeper, Rais M’Bolhi before Mikel Obi gave the team a comfortable lead in the 42nd minute beating an offside trap on set by the visitors.

The Algerians came back stronger in the second half by taking possession of the midfielder which yielded a goal as Nabil Bentaleb netted from 22-yard in the 67th minute.

The goal propelled the visitors to constantly penetrating Nigeria’s defence but Moses grabbed his brace with a superb finish in the 90th minute to seal all three points for the Super Eagles.

With the victory, Nigeria currently top the group with six points, followed by Cameroon who now have two points after their 1-1 draw against Zambia in Yaounde on Saturday.

Zambia are third with one point same as Algeria but the Zambians have a better goal difference of minus one compared to the North Africans’ minus two.

Super Eagles next match will be against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on August 28, 2017 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
