Moses marks return to Chelsea starting XI with stellar performance

Nigeria’s Victor Moses was on target but couldn’t help Chelsea win Arsenal in the English FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Moses, who scored early in the second half, had his goal cancelled by an equalizer from Sead Kolasinac late in the game.

The Blues were heading to victory with less than 10 minutes remaining before Pedro was shown a red card for an ugly lunge on Mohamed Elneny.

It was the resulting freekick that saw Kolasinac score to bring Arsenal on level terms with Chelsea in the 82nd minute, and it led to a penalty shootout which the Gunners won 4-1.

Goalkeeper Thilbaut Courtois and new signing, Alvaro Morata, missed their kicks as Arsenal score all four of theirs in the newly introduced ABBA penalty shootout style.

“It is a dream to make the fans happy, a difficult dream, but we try hard,” Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger, said after the victory.

“I would like that they stand behind the team as we might go through some very good periods and some not so good periods.

“We want to be united and together throughout the season.”

Meanwhile, Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi, who was very impressive in the game, becomes the first Nigerian to win the English FA Community Shield twice after also winning it with the Gunners in 2015.

The Community Shield serves as a curtain-raiser to a new Premier League season, and Arsenal will face former champions, Leicester City, in the season’s opener on Friday at the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea will then begin their title defence against Burnley FC a day later at Stamford Bridge.
