Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane has revealed that he rested eight players who would have ordinarily started in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Enyimba in a Caf Champions League game played in Port Harcourt.
Mosimane said that he had to rest most of his stars as his side had already secured qualification for the semifinals before Tuesday’s game at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
The Masandawana trainer also spoke about the ‘difficult conditions’ related to the rain-soaked pitch, as the heavens opened up during the game.
“We don’t want to make excuses. We lost very fair and the referee was good so congratulations to Enyimba because they deserved to win.
“They played like a side that wanted to win their final game for the pride of a country.
“It was difficult to play free-flowing football (on Tuesday) because of the difficult conditions of the pitch.
“The conditions affected even Enyimba, because they could have scored two more goals.
“Physically, we cannot compete with Enyimba is these conditions because they are stronger than us.
“I rested eight players who faced Enyimba in the first match because we had already qualified, and there is an important derby we have to play in South Africa on Sunday,” he said at the post match press conference.
Sundowns won their opening three games in the group stages of the competition and had already secured qualification, as well as the top spot before facing Enyimba on Tuesday
