Mourinho faces FA action as West Ham beats Chelsea

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is likely to face another Football Association sanction for refusing to speak to the media after the Blues were beaten 2-1 by West Ham.

Their poor season appeared to have been turning around in the last week with victory against Aston Villa last week and an impressive performance in the 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League.

But Chelsea sunk to a new low at Upton Park after falling a goal behind to Mauro Zarate before Nemanja Matic picked up two obvious yellow cards to leave Chelsea with 10 men before half-time.

Under FA rule K.99.4.2. the manager of any Premier League club has to be present for broadcasters to conduct interviews within 20 minutes of the final whistle.

Assistant first-team coach Silvino Louro was sent to the stands for rushing onto the pitch after the Matic red card, before Mourinho failed to appear on the touchline for the second half.

There were contradictory reports coming from Upton Park but it appears that the Chelsea manager had attempted to speak to Jonathan Moss in the referees’ dressing room during the break, which is not allowed.

Mourinho was likely to have been aggrieved after Cesc Fabregas had a goal ruled out for offside when he appeared to be in line with the defender – he will surely have no complaints about the Matic sending off.

Only when the Portuguese failed to retake his position pitchside, instead appearing in the stand amidst a flurry of camera phones – which no doubt would not have improved his mood – did word filter out that he too had been sent off.

Mourinho already has a suspended stadium ban hanging over him for previous indiscretions this season and is now likely to find himself in hot water with the Football Association once more.

The Portuguese then dodged the usual post-match press conference after his side slumped to their fifth defeat in 10 matches, instead heading straight for the exit and the team bus.
