Former Everton and Manchester United manager, David Moyes will be among the names expected to honour former Nigeria defender, Joseph Yobo, at his testimonial game this summer in Nigeria.

Yobo announced at a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday that the game will be played in his home city of Port Harcourt

“It has been an absolute honour for me to have represented my country, and played at the highest level for over 13 years, and I am humbled to see so many great people turn out here,” he said.

“I was David Moyes’ first signing at Everton, and he has confirmed to me that he will be here for the game.

“I have not even made that many calls, but already, a lot of my former teammates for all the clubs I played in have been calling that they want to be part of this game. It has been a humbling last few days for me.”

Liverpool defender, Kolo Toure sent in a message of support via video link, promising to be present with other Premier League stars.

Present at the announcement were Nigeria greats Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Taribo West, Peter Rufai, Victor Ikpeba and Henry Nwosu, along with former coaches Christian Chukwu, Shaibu Amodu, Augustine Eguavoen and Fanny Amun.

Yobo last played for Norwich and retired from internationals in 2014.

“It is not an easy thing to bring this many football legends together in one room,” Kanu told ESPN FC. “The fact that Yobo has done it shows the respect that he has in football and I have no doubt this will be a great celebration.”

Former PSG and Bolton Wanderers midfielder, Okocha was equally flattering, telling ESPN FC: “It is not easy to play 100 games for your country and the fact that Yobo was the first to reach that mark says a lot about him as a player.”

Yobo began his career at non-league Michelin FC in Port Harcourt, before leaving for Standard Liege in Belgium. He went on to play for Marseille, Everton, Fenerbahce and Norwich and captained Nigeria to African Nations Cup success in 2013.
