Mum Serena guns for records in Wimbledon final

Serena makes declaration

Tennis superstar, Serena Williams recently returned to the sport after giving birth to her daughter Olympia 10 months ago, and is just one win away from clinching another Grand Slam title.

The 36-year old American, who is playing only her fourth tournament since the arrival of her baby, will battle Angelique Kerber on Saturday in the final of Wimbledon.

Victory for Serena would complete a fairytale return to tennis, make her the first mother to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish since Evonne Goolagong in 1980, and hand her an eighth Wimbledon singles title.

Having won her 23rd singles Grand Slam title in Australia while she was few weeks pregnant, a triumph this weekend for Serena will equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

Meanwhile, Court and Kim Clijsters are the other mothers to have won major titles, and Serena could join that trend.

Williams, who arrived at the All England Club ranked 181 in the world and seeded 25th, will be appearing in her 10th Wimbledon singles final when she takes on Kerber on Saturday at 2:00p.m Nigeria time.
