My son-in-law is Imo's 'only hope', submit his name to INEC, Okorocha begs APC

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha appears hellbent on making his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, his successor in 2019.

This was as the governor has said that Nwosu is the “only hope” of Imo and pleaded with the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to submit his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s governorship candidate.

Imo State is one of the crisis-ridden states where APC is battling contending factions. Hope Uzodinma and Nwosu, Okorocha’s son-in-law, are laying claim to the candidacy of the party in the state.

A recent court ruling on Imo APC seems to have favoured Uzodinma and the party’s national publicity secretary, Issa-Onilu, recently said that the outcome of the court judgement would guide the party in the Imo State gubernatorial primary tussle.

He said, “The issue of submission of governorship candidates to INEC falls due on November 2nd, so we haven’t reached the stage of where we will submit names or beat the deadline. You are aware that there was a court action challenging the Imo governorship primary election.

But in a statement on Sunday, Okorocha argued that APC upholding Nwosu’s candidacy will “protect the high integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari and the integrity of the party.”

Insisting that his son-in-law is the “only hope” for Imo, Okorocha said that the candidates of other parties would spell doom for the state.

“For some time now, I have been in Abuja fighting for the soul of Imo State from possible kidnap and subsequent destruction by political thieves.

“The only hope left for Imo State now is for Uche Nwosu to emerge as a candidate. Otherwise, there will be total economic catastrophe when I leave as governor.

“Though they have spoken falsely and badly about our candidate, nobody can say that he was a fraudster in Lagos or that he was an armed robber in Benin or an arrogant man or a criminal.

“They have actually nothing to say about him except that he is my son-in-law,” he said.

Okorocha whose second tenure as governor ends in 2019 has already secured APC’s senatorial ticket for Imo West and is making all efforts to ensure Nwosu succeeds him.

The development has seen many citizens of Imo accuse Okorocha of trying to perpetuate himself in the leadership of the state through his family members.
