Ageing social media network Myspace has been acquired by Time Inc. which seeks to revamp the platform to distribute news stories.

Time Inc. hopes to use the reach of Myspace which still brings in tens of millions of views each month to expose users to content from such media entities as Time, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, People and Fortune.

Time Inc. may also attempt to bring content to users through email delivery by accessing the mail database of past and present Myspace users and also distribute content CEO Tim Vanderhook told Business Insider in an interview.

The once viable platform, Myspace has travelled a rocky road since the social network was purchased by News Corp.

As Facebook grew, cornering users of Myspace in droves coupled with missteps taken by Rupert Murdoch-owned company, which bought over Myspace from News Corp., the social media platform alienated its users over the years.

But its new owners seeks to revive the platform and are also looking beyond Myspace as it believes it will contribute as much as $100 million to digital advertising revenue over the next year through Specific Media and network.
