N3.2BN FRAUD: EFCC amends 34 charges against ex-Gov Kalu

An amended 39-count charges have been filed before a Federal High Court Lagos against a former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed the amended charges on Wednesday against Kalu in respect to his alleged fraud of N3.2 billion.

The anti-graft agency had initially on October 31, 2016 levelled a 34-count charge against the former governor along with a former Commissioner for Finance in Abia, Ude Udeogo and a company, Slok Nig. Ltd, believed to belong to Kalu.

The accused were granted bails in the matter after pleading not guilty.

The EFCC had on May 11 closed its case in the trial which had been on since 2016, and the matter was subsequently adjourned for the defence to open it’s defence.

However, as the matter came up in court, the prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), told the court of an amended charges against the accused which was filed this morning.

He noted that the prosecution was also served with a no case submission by each of the accused.

Jacobs explained that he received the no case submission of first accused on May 28, those of the second and third accused were received moments before court sitting on Wednesday morning.
