Chimaroke Nnamani, court on Nnamani N5.3bn fraud case, court reaffirming Nnamani's arrest

The move by former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, to have the Federal High Court in Lagos vacate the bench warrant it issued for his arrest has failed.

The court on Friday insisted that he must be arrested.

Nnamani had through his lawyer, Mr. Rickey Tarfa (SAN ), prayed the court to vacate its earlier order of a bench warrant issued for his arrest.

But the trial judge, Justice Chuka Obiozor, rejected the prayer and insisted that the ex-governor must be produced before him to answer on his involvement in the alleged N5.3 billion fraud charge.\

Justice Obiozor also sacked Nnamani ’s application challenging the court ’s jurisdiction and seeking a perpetual injunction to restrain the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting him.

The application was struck out by the judge, after Tarfa had asked to withdraw same.

The trial was later adjourned untill February 20, 2018, after EFCC prosecutor, Mr. Kelvin Uzozie, asked that he should be given sometime to consult with the anti-graft agency on how to proceed with the case.

Nnamani, his ex- aide, Sunday Anyaogu, and six companies were first arraigned in 2007 for allegedly conspiring to divert about N5.3 billion from the account of Enugu State.

After about three judges had earlier handled the case, it was in December 2017 transferred to Justice Obiozor.
