The Federal Government’s quest to revamp some ailing fertilizer blending plants in the country is facing difficulties linked to the N87 billion debts incurred in the process of distributing the product by agro-dealers during the regime of the previous government of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, New Telegraph has learnt.

A source at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), said that government is yet to resolve the lingering fertilizer debt due to fund paucity, which is stalling the completion of the identified fertilizer blending plants that are meant to boost self-sufficiency of the products in the country.

The source explained that the ministry is keen on seeing that the debt issue with the agro-dealers is resolved amicably, but there is no end in sight because of the huge sum involved.

According to the source, the agric ministry, in conjunction with the Presidential Committee on Fertilizer, has been intensifying effort to see that more fertilizer blending plants spring up in the country.
