Nadal marks return from injury with win against Berdych

Fourteen-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, who has been away due to injury, marked his return to tennis with a straight-sets victory against Tomas Berdych at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship (MWTC).

The Spaniard has been away since October 2016 due to a wrist injury but looked in good form against the Czech, as he won the first set easily by 6-0.

But Berdych, the world No. 10, who also had injury problems in 2016, did put up a better fight in the second set that ended 6-4.

The win meant that Nadal has progressed to the semi-final of the Abu Dhabi exhibition event – which is merely a tuning up tournament prior to the full start of the season.

Nadal will go on to play Milos Raonic in the semi-finals, while Andy Murray will face David Goffin on Friday.
