#Nademdeyrushus: Dirty things APC, PDP said about ‘beautiful bride’ Omisore

Politics is no doubt an interesting game! And as they say, in politics, there are no permanent friends but permanent interests.

This game of interest is what is currently playing out in Osun State, as voters in seven polling units go to the polls on Thursday, September 27 to cast their vote in the rerun ordered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, after it declared the Saturday, September 22 ballot inconclusive.

Before the September 22 election, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, was a man many in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loved to hate.

A former deputy governor of the state and former Senator, Iyiola Omisore, for the progressive camp, as represented by APC, in the state, was a man you cannot afford to be seen with while for the PDP, his former party, Omisore was a pain in the neck and of gross inordinate ambition.

These has however changed, as Omisore’s Ile Ife has become a Mecca for both APC and PDP leaders as both parties jostle for his support and endorsement in Thursday’s rerun election.

As stated above, Omisore has not always been the beautiful bride he has become. He was in time past a victim of the caustic pens and tongues of APC and PDP spokesmen at the state level and their supporters.

Below are some of the dirty things written and said about him in the past, some as recently as just before the September 22 governorship election:

APC

Just before the September 22 election, APC accused Omisore of employment scam to hoodwink voters

“If you don’t know it, there is an employment scam in town and the one and only Iyiola Omisore is at it again.

“Just as Omisore did in 2014, he is again circulating a bogus employment form and asking the unemployed to fill.

“This whole damned thing is a scam and the people of Osun should discountenance it.

“It is another governorship election cycle and as usual Omisore is again engaged in a mean deception of pliable people.

“If Omisore has any job to give anyone, why should he wait until this period when election is less than 40 days away?

“The people of Osun already know that Omisore is not and does not have an employment agency

“So for him to be giving jobless people the impression that he cares about their joblessness is fake. The purpose is to deceive and mislead impressionable people that job is available for them.

“Isn’t that another form of political fraud? It is pure and simple – a scam, what our people will call ‘babanla 419”

APC

APC dismissing Omisore’s chances at the September 22 election after the former Senator said he would run APC out of Government House

“Or is Omisore still under the illusion that after he lost out in the PDP he can still muster the same following that the party offered him in 2014?

“Only inordinate ambition will prod a diminished politician to fantasise about his personal worth in a competitive election like the one scheduled in Osun for September 22, 2018”

APC

APC raising an alarm on alleged plot to assassinate some APC leaders before the 2014 Osun governorship election

“Omisore and the PDP have contracted the assassination of four top APC leaders to hired killers from the Niger Delta for immediate execution.

“The leaders involved are Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke (the first civilian governor of the state), Elder Peter Babalola, Chief Olu Abiola and Alhaji Fatai Oyedele. The hired killers, APC reliably gathered, have already commenced surveillance on the four leaders. Very credible inside sources from the PDP itself alerted us that Omisore and top members of his party took this decision at a meeting in Lagos on Thursday.

“We are therefore alerting Nigerians of the horrible dimension to which Omisore’s desperation for power has taken. PDP in the state has gone berserk and their diabolical lust for power has become so murderous that they seem to care less about innocent lives.

APC

APC replying Omisore on why he did not attend a televised debate before 2014 election. Omisore had said the debate would have been among ‘unequals’, insisting that Governor Aregbesola was still a tout when he started playing politics.

“Omisore sounded mean and shallow when he tried to denigrate Aregbesola’s academic qualification that the governor ‘presented O’Level (certificate) to INEC’. Again, that’s the wisdom of a fool; but for the foolishness embedded in that piece of information is that Omisore’s current certificate presented to INEC was a court affidavit in place of his primary and secondary school certificates.

“In particular, we challenge Omisore to produce his certificates from St John’s Grammar School, Ile Ife and Owo Polytechnic, Ondo State.

“What moral authority then has a man who till today presented court affidavit to show that he went to primary and secondary schools to denigrate another person who he said presented his O’Level certificate to INEC?”

“The truth of the matter is that, like all inadequate personalities, Omisore was and continues to be afraid of confronting Aregbesola who can expose his lies with incontrovertible facts. That was why he ran away from the debate – simplicita!”

APC

APC replying Omisore over claims he attracted projects to Osun State.

“It is blatant lie for Omisore to claim that he influenced the siting of these projects in Osun. What we challenged Omisore to do is to identify any ‘spectacular’ achievement in his Ile-Ife home town that was his idea or which he influenced.”

“Omisore lied that he facilitated many infrastructural development in Ile-Ife. Why couldn’t he name them?

“Anybody in Osun or anywhere else who continues to say without producing evidence that Aregbesola has led Osun State into N403 billion debt is a shameless liar and unworthy of being a governor. And that is what Omisore had been doing in the last one year.

“The most ridiculous of Omisore’s lies is that Aregbesola has spent N3 billion on billboards and posters for a second term campaign. Again the man did not produce a shred of evidence to back his allegation.

PDP

PDP leaders accusing Omisore of allegedly cornering N17 billion meant for the 2014 governorship election in Osun and the 2015 presidential election.

“That the PDP lost the elections may no longer be news, but the secret behind the party’s undeserved loss at the poll remains the issue, as it thereafter culminated in so many regrettable developments for the party.

“As a serious party, after the elections, various committees were set up to probe into why we lost and there were many serious and disappointing revelations, which include but not limited to the fact that the senator who was our candidate, helped his pockets to a great extent with funds meant for the elections.

“He couldn’t account till today for several billions of naira meant for providing essential logistics for the 2014 elections. Attempts to ask him questions led to so many unpalatable reactions from him, which included the ejection of the party from his Ogo-Oluwa property in Osogbo, which hitherto served as the party’s state secretariat.”

“Amidst this came the issue of EFCC allegations, investigations, arrest, detention, and refund of several billions of naira, which he allegedly collected for the purpose of the governorship elections.

“You will all recall that Otunba Omisore initially denied ever collecting any money for the elections only for him to admit while in the EFCC custody and begin to refund.

“Despite his isolation of the party at the time of collection and appropriation of the funds, as a responsible party, we stood by him during the travails. Our party joined him to suffer the image battery because of the brotherly love and respect we had for him.

“All these could not appease the former deputy governor, who had since turned himself into an albatross for the party and continued to promote factions and disloyalty to the party leadership, especially under the leadership of Prince Uche Secondus.”

APC

APC dismissing Omisore’s candidacy after he emerged the 2014 governorship candidate of the PDP

The statement partly reads, “The emergence of Iyiola Omisore from a kangaroo primary of the PDP over the weekend is typical of a party whose hallmark for political engagement is gangsterism.

“We all expected it, even his co-aspirant has had to withdraw from the race because the candidate and his gang will stop at nothing including violence to pick his party’s ticket. And he already has it.

“However, that development makes things easier for the APC because with an Omisore, the PDP has a candidate that lacks pedigree, credibility, responsibility and focus.

“The APC welcomes Omisore to the race and expects him to be a lot less violent about political engagement this time around because he is unlikely to get away with it”.

OMISORE REACTS

However, in a statement released on Wednesday, Omisore said, “Osun state has always been a stellar example of democracy where the people have consistently and freely expressed their franchise to determine who governs them.

“This should remain so. Osun people have shown that it is not business as usual. It is a positive deviation from what was hitherto the norm. I am telling my people that they should go with any political party that believes in what we in the SDP stand for; good governance, social justice, and accountability.

“I have already detailed how we planned to restore Osun to the path of good governance through the five thematic pillars in my manifesto I shared during the electioneering. I will not negotiate for personal gains and abandon my people.

“My alliance is with the people of Osun state irrespective of the political party they belong. I want my people to be treated with the dignity they deserve. I desire that they have a government that will be accountable to them. I want them to experience the good governance the founding fathers of this state envisaged.

“I have told the parties that have solicited for my support to approach the electorate and ask for their mandate as I have assured them that I will not coerce them for political or social power. It is because I have kept my promise that has made me enjoy their unalloyed support all these years.
“The fulcrum of my campaign was and is still the restoration of good governance and accountability to our dear state. I have consistently preached against voters coercion, I have voiced my stand against votes buying, voters intimidation, and politicisation.”
