NAF helicopter blade kills aircraftman deployed to Borno

An officer of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been killed by a service helicopter blade in Bama, Borno state.

The aircraftman, who has been identified as Ganimu Umar, was deployed to the North East in the ongoing counter-offensive against the Boko Haram insurgents.

PRNigeria reports that Umar was passing through the side of the functioning rotor when the blade chopped off his head.

The report read: “A blade of the Nigerian Air force (NAF) helicopter has killed an aircraftman in Bama, Borno State.

“PRNigeria gathered that Aircraftman (ACM) Umaru Abdul Ganimu was part of the NAF team actively engaged in counter-insurgency operation in the North East. “The incident occurred in Bama in Borno state on Saturday.

“ACM Ganimu Umar was passing through the side of the functioning rotor when the blade chopped off his head.

“The aircraft was recovered and taken back to the airbase without any damage on tail rotor.

“He has since been buried according to the Islamic rites at the Maimalari Military Cemetery in Maiduguri after the family members were duly informed.”
