NAF receives two helicopters seized by Customs

Two civil model Bell helicopters imported into the country by unknown persons, which were later impounded by the Nigerian Customs Service have been handed over to the Nigerian Air Force.

According to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of the Nigerian Customs Service, the helicopters were seized after the unidentified importer failed to tender an end user certificate from the office of the National Security Adviser.

While addressing newsmen, Frank Allanah, Customs Area Controller, revealed that the value of the two helicopters and other accessories found in them were valued at N9.7 billion.

“The helicopters were flown in as a consignment with Airway Bill Number 17232444403 into the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport”, he said.

The failure by the importer to produce the end user certificate according to the NSC contravenes Section 36 ( 2) of the Customs and Excise Management Act and that the seizure was effected on November 7, 2016 in line with section 46 of CEMA.
