NAFDAC: DG Oni bows out, in comes Magbojuri

The Acting Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Mrs Yetunde Oni has been dropped.

In her place, the Federal Government has approved Mr. Ademola Andrew Magbojuri as the new Acting Director General of the agency.

Permanent secretary in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) R.P. Ugo, approved Mrs Obi’s retirement in a memo dated September 28, 2017.

Oni, who served in acting capacity for 18 months following the sack of NAFDAC”s substantive DG, Dr. Paul Orhii. attained the retirement age of 60 years last week.

The agency was thrown into crisis recently, over the continued stay in office of the dropped DG who was due to have bowed out of office on September 21.

She reportedly proceeded on a foreign trip, when she knew she was due for retirement.

Magbojuri is the most senior director in the regulatory agency, and was in charge of the agency’s Training and Research Institute in Kaduna.

The new DG also served as Director of Finance and Accounts before he was redeployed to the agency’s Planning, Research and Statistics unit.

The Medical and Health Workers Union chapter of NAFDAC on Friday announced commencement of an indefinite strike over poor welfare package.

The union said the strike was meant to push for an improve welfare as well as ensure that the management of the agency implemented an agreement it reached with the union on welfare package in 2013.
