NAFDAC uncovers fake alcoholic beverages factory on Lagos Island

The National Food and Drugs Agency of Nigeria (NAFDAC) has uncovered a factory on Lagos Island that produces fake alcoholic beverages.

The agency said in a statement on Tuesday the discovery of the factory located on Offin Road in the Balogun area of Lagos Island followed complaints by members of the public.

NAFDAC said the factory has been producing and packaging fake alcoholic drinks for the public.

According to the agency, items worth over ₦30 million were destroyed and seized in the operation.

The statement read: “Assorted bottles of the offending products were destroyed on-site, while officials at the scene confiscated packaging materials, empty bottles, and repackaged drinks.

“NAFDAC has initiated further investigations and advises consumers to buy alcoholic beverages only from reputable vendors and to report any suspicious products and activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.”
