NAMA, AIB, NIMET bosses booted out

The Federal Government on Monday announced that it had relieved the chief executive officers of the four aviation agencies in Nigeria.

No reason was given for the action.

The agencies are, the Nigerian Airspace ManagementAgency (NAMA), Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria and the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) with new appointees directed to resume work with immediate effect.

The Presidency announced that President Muhammadu Buhari, who approved the sack appointed Captain Fola Akinkuotu, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) as the new Managing Director of NAMA, while its acting Managing Director, Emma Anasi, who was due for retirement was asked to proceed on terminal leave.

Government also appointed a deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Abuja, Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi as Director-General, NIMET, as Dr. Anthony Anuforom its former boss was sacked.

Also Captain Abdulsalam Mohammed is to assume the position of new Rector, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, replacing Captain Samuel Caulcrick.

Akinola Olateru was appointed the Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB)

Olateru is an engineer of international repute and a trained Air Accident Manager and Certified Safety Officer with Aircraft Maintenance Engineering licenses in Nigeria, USA and the United Kingdom.

Though no official reason was given by government for the sack,  analysts, however, say it is in line with the concessionning of major aviation agencies along with FAAN, which in September 2016 had most of its directors and other management cadre relieved of their duties.
