NANS fumes over ASUU strike, vows to shutdown Nigeria in 21 days

The National Association of Nigerian Students has expressed anger over the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to embark on indefinite strike.

The students called on the Federal Government to urgently address the plight of the lecturers.

The students’ union said that the Federal Government has 21 days to address the agitating issue it has with ASUU, and threatened that failure to address the issue within the given period of time will leave Nigerian students with no other option than to ground all activities in the country.

This was contained in a statement the national president of NANs, Mr Chinonso Obasi, made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

He said, “It is with deep pain and regret that NANS received the news of another indefinite strike by ASUU over the Federal Government’s indifference to their plight.

“Nigerian students see the breakdown in negotiations as a further proof that political leaders don’t care about their future. Consequently, we wish to call on the Federal Government to do all it can to get ASUU back to the classrooms.

“Consequently, we wish to call on the Federal Government to do all it can to get ASUU back to the classrooms. The demands of ASUU are reasonable and touch on the integrity of government, especially in the light of the fight against corruption.”

He went further to say that “in the light of the foregoing the Federal Government has 21 days to resolve outstanding issues with ASUU in the interest of long-suffering Nigerian students”, adding that if by the expiration of 21days ultimatum, the issue was not resolved that Nigerian students would be forced to ground activities in the country.

ASUU on Monday embarked on an indefinite strike on the claims that the Federal Government has refused to honor the agreement it entered with it eight years ago.

Now the students have finally woken up from their slumber… the best way to get federal government to listen to ASUU and grant their demands is for NANS to join the strike.

Long live NANS! We’re not here to joke but to face the federal government that have continually failed us. Students can only be well taught when the academic staffs are happy! Their suffering is our suffering too, this is a fight for all of us and we’re not going back.

Well, when NANS ground everything in the country, one thing is sure, they cannot ground my bed room. This is the only moment I have to rest my head, sleep and eat well.

How I wish the nonentity group of reprobates and rogues called ASUU can be scrapped totally in Nigeria. This people are not fighting for the students well being or welfare neither are they fighting for improved university facilities but for their own selfish benefits. Other universities should pull out of useless ASUU like Unilorin.

If asuu is scrapped, who then fight for the betterment of the university, well, Biafra universities will be void of strike that I can assure

I trust my able acting president, he was once a lecturer and he loves we students dearly, so the strike won’t stay long at all
