Nasarawa begins screening of workers amid complaints

Published

on

Nasarawa State government yesterday commenced yet another round of screening for civil servants in the state amid complaints from workers about what they described as ‘endless screening exercises’ under the Tanko Al-Makura administration in the state.

The screening exercise, according to the government, was aimed at ascertaining the actual number of civil servants on the payroll of the government with a view to eliminating ghost workers.

Investigation revealed that the current screening exercise, which had to do with physical head-count, followed the inability of the present administration to achieve the objective of the exercises in the past.

New Telegraph gathered that in the early days of the present administration in 2011, the government engaged Ahmed Zakari and Company to carry out a biometric screening of civil servants in the state and at the end of the exercise, 845 ghost workers were discovered on the payroll of government collecting salary of N62, 869, 461.
