National Assembly calls emergency sitting over Onnoghen’s suspension

There are reports that the two chambers of the National Assembly would reconvene on Tuesday to further discuss the suspension of the head of the judicial arm of government by the executive.

According to a source within the Assembly, the Tuesday’s sitting would be a follow up to a leadership meeting scheduled for Sunday (tomorrow).

Asides the new development, the lawmakers having adjourned sitting on Thursday, were not supposed to reconvene until February 19, after the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Both the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives have joined other Nigerians and the international community to condemn the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari.
