National Peace Committee meets with Buhari

National Peace Committee (NPC) members on Friday held a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In attendance at the meeting with President Buhari were John Cardinal Onaiyekan and Bishop Mathew Kukah.

The group led by a former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, had also on Thursday met with the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

The meeting is coming after last Saturday’s presidential election, in which President Buhari defeated Atiku, his closest rival.

According to NPC, the move is targeted at dousing the rising tension in the country, following the announcement of outcome of the presidential elections.

Atiku, and his party, the PDP had rejected the result of the election and have vowed to challenge it in court.

According to the opposition party and its candidate, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), manipulated the result to favour Buhari.
