NBC declares Olamide’s ‘Science Student’ unfit for broadcast

The viral song of YBNL head honcho Olamide titled ‘Science Student’ which has generated negative ripples and knocks from critics and fans alike has been declared unfit for broadcast the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Reports say the NBC has tagged the song a ‘Not To Be Broadcast’ (NTBB) material and has proscribed the song warning radio and television stations across the country not to air it.

Confirming the development, Hajia Maimuna Jimada , the Head of Public Affairs, NBC, said while speaking to Tribune that the song hasn’t been banned but has been declared unfit for broadcast.

“NBC does not ban music. Our mandate is on what goes on Radio and TV. Olamide’s Science Student has been declared ‘Unfit for broadcast.’

“The profligate mention and the subtle promotion of illegal drugs declared the song unlawful.

“We have communicated all our licensees for compliance or they will face sanctions,” she added.

The announcement is coming a week after Nollywood player in the person of Don Pedro Obaseki called on the NBC to ban the song by Olamide.

In a video posted on social media, Obaseki said the song jointly produced by Young Jonn & BBanks which seemingly promotes the abuse of hard drugs and substances in the name of dance and music must not be allowed to hit the airwaves or any kind of wave in Nigeria.
