Semenitari, NDDC boss gets heckled by angry contractors

Published

on

A melee ensued on Tuesday as contractors handling projects for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) staged a peaceful protest in front of the commission’s headquarters on Aba Road, Port Harcourt over non-payment for jobs executed.

The contractors, who came under the platform of Contractors Association of NDDC, accused the commission of being insensitive to their plight and appealed to the federal government to cancel all fresh jobs awarded by the previous board.

Mr Joe Adia, who led the group, said it is unnecessary for new contracts to be awarded when jobs already awarded several years ago have not been paid for.

Adia also said that some of his colleagues are being owed for jobs executed five to three years ago pointing out that some of them (the contractors)
have even died out of frustration while waiting for their money to be paid.

He added that his association decided to stage the protest to bring their plight to the attention of the new Acting Managing Director of the Commission, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari.
