N’DELTA: Akpabio hints at govt’s plans to review projects execution
The Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Monday, said that the Nigerian Government would embark on a review of all projects executed in the Niger-Delta region.
He said the move was to enable the government to formulate new policies and programmes that would effectively drive and address the challenges in the oil-rich region.
Akpabio stated this when he received a group from the region, Youth for Peace and Development in Abuja.
He told members of the group to return to the people at home with the message that the “era of crying and suffering is over” in the region.
“A critical assessment of the situation in the region will enable the present administration to assess the impact of activities and programmes in the region to enable him to formulate new policy programmes in the drive to effectively address the challenges in the region,” he said.
Further assuring them of President Buhari’s commitment to changing the face of the region, Akpabio promised to visit each state in the region to assess the immediate situation on the ground and report back to the president.
According to him, in the next 24 months, everything would be put in place to ensure that Buhari commissions at least, one key project in each state of the region.
He also noted that appointment and that of Festus Keyamo (SAN), who serves as a junior minister in the ministry, was not a coincidence.

He said it was a deliberate policy of the president, because the two of them being sons of the region could be acquainted with the needs and expectations of the people.
