N’Delta militants issue December deadline for relocation of IOCs headquarters

Niger-Delta Intellectual Front (NDIF) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) as sponsors of militants who recently vowed to secede the Niger Delta region from Nigeria by June 1.

A militant group in the oil region, Niger Delta Republic Fighters (NDRF), had in a statement by its director of information, Maxwell Dan, on Monday threatened that it will on June 1, 2019 declare a Niger Delta Republic.

The group said its decision came about following alleged maltreatment of the people of the region under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

But responding in a statement by its convener on Wednesday, Brigadier Godknows Akparawo, NDIF asked Nigerians to disregard the threat.

Although the group did not mention the PDP as sponsors of the militants, it however accused “opposition that lost the Presidential Election to President Muhammadu Buhari and discredited organizations like PANDEF” as paymasters of NDRF.

PDP was the major opposition in the 2019 general elections and was also adopted by PANDEF to become Nigeria’s governing party.

In its statement NDIF said “it has taken time to study the threats of disruption of oil multinationals, hijack of Port Harcourt International Airport by phantom separatists fighter jets, threat of violence against other Nigerians amongst other rants and have come to the inevitable conclusion that those that issued the statement are political jobbers that are on a final revenue generation round before the May 29 Inauguration Day, when it would have become obvious that they failed their political paymasters in preventing Nigeria from the steady march on the path of progress.”

It went further to say, “From the language of the statement issued by the wannabe separatists, it is apparent that they are on an errand on behalf of the opposition that lost the Presidential Election to President Muhammadu Buhari and discredited organizations like PANDEF.

“It is most unfortunate that they could not even hide the identity of those that sent them on the fool’s errand they are running even as it is apparent that those that have been misled to take on this task do not realize the enormity of the crimes they are committing by merely issuing the statement they have put in the public space.”
