New economic sanctions an "act of war", North Korea declares

Pariah Asian nation North Korea led by headstrong leader Kim Jong Un has declared the latest economic sanctions imposed on it by the United Nations due to its continued missile activities as an “act of war”.

The North Korean foreign ministry in a statement issued via the official KCNA news agency said the measures were tantamount to a total economic blockade.

It described the latest UN sanctions “as a violent breach of our republic’s sovereignty and an act of war that destroys the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and a wide region.

“The United States, completely terrified at our accomplishment of the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force, is getting more and more frenzied in the moves to impose the harshest-ever sanctions and pressure on our country.

“We will further consolidate our self-defensive nuclear deterrence aimed at fundamentally eradicating the US nuclear threats, blackmail and hostile moves by establishing the practical balance of force with the US.”

Two days ago, a ban on nearly 90 percent of refined petroleum exports to North Korea was imposed by the United Nations- a decision imposed on Pyongyang to stop it from furthering its nuclear programme.

The sanction seeks to cap petroleum exports to North Korea at 500,000 barrels a year and also demanded the repatriation of North Koreans working abroad within 12 months.

24-hours ago, two North Korean diplomats were also expelled in Peru after the government declared them persona non grata over Pyongyang’s continued missile activities which is in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
