With two more prominent Igbo joining the race on Monday for the office of the President General of the organization, stakeholders have expressed the view that the election will be fiercely contested – but free and fair.

The next President-General of Ohanaeze will be produced by Enugu State in line with the zoning arrangement of the organisation.
The two entrants are Professor Simon Ortuanya, a former Commissioner for Education in Enugu State during the administration of Governor Sullivan Chime; and Mr I. D. Ezugwu.

The AUTHORITY gathered that the duo declared their interests in the race by buying the nomination forms from the Secretary of the Ohanaeze Election Committee, Prof. A.B.C Nwosu.

Before Ortuanya and Ezugwu joined the contest, the race had been narrowed down to former Information Minister, Dr Nnia Nwodo, former Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (rtd) and Prof. Chiweyite Ejike.

Sources at the Ohanaeze Secretariat said that both Nwodo and Ejike appeared before the screening panel while Madueke did not show up till the members retired to their rooms in the hotels.

However, it was gathered that they will work throughout the night to ensure that every aspirant is screened before the elections hold today.
