New Olu of Warri may emerge today

Following the demise of Ogiame Atuwase II, the Olu of Warri Kingdom in Delta State the Itsekiri people may today pick a candidate to seat on the vacant throne to lead the Itsekiri traditional kingdom.
The event slated for Ode-Itsekiri (Big Warri) has created anxiety within the kingdom, especially as it has been kept secret, and billed to hold under the disguise of a special convention of the ethnic group.
It was however gathered that the occasion will be used to formally announce the death of Ogiame, who reportedly died in a Lagos hospital a few weeks ago.

A source within the tradition clan said that “The announcement of Ogiame Atuwatse II will also pave the way for the emergence of his successor”.
The anxiety stems from a new development in the race to pick another monarch for the kingdom as a main candidate for the throne, son of the late Olu, Prince Tsola Emiko was disqualified by the kingmakers on the ground of his maternal lineage.
Traditional sources say his mother is not from the two tribes that can be the mother of Olu, as only princes born of Itsekiri or Edo mothers are qualified for the throne.
