As preparations for the 2023 elections heat up, an economist and former managing director of the now-defunct FSB International Bank, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has declared his intention to vie for the presidential seat in 2023.

He made this declaration in Lagos on Wednesday while addressing a gathering.

His declaration of intent came barely two weeks after he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The presidential hopeful stressed that in 2023 Nigeria needs massive space to grow through industry, hard work and innovation.

He spoke on the zoning debate in the PDP, and noted that it was a decision for to be taken by the leadership of the party.

On the nature of Nigeria’s political system, Hayatu-Deen spoke on the poor quality of delivery of public goods and services across all tiers of government, stressing that Nigeria needs someone who has the economic foresight to drive it forward.

He also stressed the paucity of confidence in the system, adding that “the nation is facing a monumental crisis of confidence approaching existential proportions understood by all”.
