Newcastle draw Man Utd as West Ham, Aston Villa secure wins

Paul Dummett scored a dramatic late equaliser to earn Newcastle United a point in a 3-3 draw with Manchester United Tuesday night.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa secured a rare victory in their battle to avoid the drop as they beat Crystal Palace 1-0, while West Ham United beat Bournemouth 3-1.

Wayne Rooney scored twice and provided an assist as Manchester United survived a Newcastle comeback to continue their winning momentum.

Manchester United have been widely accused of playing dull football this season, but this was a rather entertaining encounter.

Louis van Gaal’s side took the lead through a Rooney penalty after Chancel Mbemba handled the ball in the area.

Rooney later turned provider for Jesse Lingard to make it 2-0, but Newcastle did well to respond and reduced the deficit courtesy of a goal from Georginio Wijnaldum.

It was 2-2 after Aleksandar Mitrovic scored from the spot having been fouled by Chris Smalling.

Rooney, however, then swung the game back in United’s favour with an excellent finish.

The last word, though, went to Dummett, who found the top corner in the 89th minute.

Similarly, Aston Villa secured their first Premier League victory since the opening day of the day of the season to provide them with a much-needed boost in their battle against relegation.

The goal came courtesy of defender Joleon Lescott, who headed home from Jordan Veretout’s cross, although technology was required in order to prove that the ball had crossed the line following a mistake by Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

Palace’s best chance came in the first minute when Wilfried Zaha struck a post, but they struggled to build upon that momentum.

Meanwhile, West Ham United came from behind to secure an impressive victory over Bournemouth

Harry Arter gave Bournemouth the lead with a neat finish from outside of the box, but the Hammers levelled through Dimitri Payet‘s excellent free-kick.

West Ham then went ahead when Enner Valencia scored his first Premier League goal of the season. Valencia then doubled his tally in the closing stages to add further gloss to the scoreline.

Valencia’s second was superb, with the forward finding the net with an excellent free-kick.

The win saw The Hammers move up to fifth in the Premier League.

Bournemouth gave a debut to club record signing Benik Afobe, but they were unable to return to winning ways as their battle to avoid the drop suffered another setback.
