PINNICK vs GIWA: Supreme Court orders trial to start afresh in High Court

World Football governing body, FIFA has given the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) till August 20, 2018 to resolve its issues or face a ban.

The Bureau of the FIFA Council has said it will suspend Nigeria from engaging in football activities if the tussle between Chris Giwa and Amaju Pinnick boards persists by next Monday.

The Crisis at the Glass House, which have lasted for four years, got even messier last Monday when Giwa and his collaborators took over the NFF Secretariat in the absence of FIFA-recognized Pinnick, who is at the ongoing U-20 Women’s World Cup in France.

According to a media statement on the official website of FIFA on Tuesday, the NFF will be suspended with immediate effect for contravening art. 14 par. 1 i) and art. 19, as well as art. 14 par. 1 a) of the FIFA Statutes.

The case between Giwa and Pinnick has been in court since 2014, and Fifa’s statutes do not allow undue influence on the running of football, as matters of football are not decided in the ordinary court.

The ban will be placed, the Bureau said, if “offices are not handed back to the legitimate NFF executive committee under president Amaju Pinnick.”

However, if the suspension takes place, it would not affect Falconets’ ongoing participation at the Women’s youth World Cup in France.

The statement also stated that the suspension would be lifted only once the NFF – under President Pinnick and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi – confirms that it has been given back effective control of the NFF and its offices.
