NFF crisis: Giwa, Effiong, three others get 5-year ban

The Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday banned the proprietor of Giwa FC, Chris Giwa, and four others for five years for dragging the football body to court, a move against FIFA ethics.

Giwa who has been having a running court battle with the Amaju Pinnick led NFF board, made an unannounced visit to the NFF’s office located at Wuse Zone 7, Abuja by 4pm lastFriday but was subsequently arrested by the Police.

Giwa is laying claim to the NFF presidency having secured a court ruling declaring the 2015 Warri Congress that produced the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF board illegal.

Part of the decision of the Disciplinary Committee reads: “That Christopher Giwa, Muazu Suleyman, Yahaya Adama, Sani Fema and Johnson Effiong are found guilty of breaching Art. 69(1) of the NFF Statutes by taking football matters to the ordinary court and failing to submit to the jurisdiction of FIFA and the NFF.

The statement added, “That Christopher Giwa is guilty of breach of the general rules of conduct as contained in Art. 13 of the FIFA Code of Ethics when he invaded the premises of the Nigeria Football Federation and falsely presented himself as President of the NFF on 6th May, 2016.

The Committee said, “Based on the findings above and in Line with the provision of Art. 65 (3) of the NFF Statutes 2010, the NFF Disciplinary Committee hereby pronounces the following sanctions on the following persons: Christopher Giwa, Muazu Suleyman, Yahaya Adama, Sani Fema and Johnson Effiong are hereby banned from taking part in any football related activity for a period of Five (5) years each.”

Meanwhile, the Disciplinary Committee has awarded Wikki Tourists of Bauchi three points and three goals while sanctioning Giwa FC to pay the sum of N250,000 as fine for failing to show up for the match against the Bauchi team in Ilorin on Wednesday.
