NFF: No sanction against Isaac Success

The Nigerian Football Federation have rubbished reports that they believe Watford might have faked an injury to withdraw Isaac Success from their squad.

The 20-year-old striker, who became the Hornets’ record signing when he joined from Granada in a £12.5million deal in the summer transfer window, sat out of his country’s World Cup qualifier with Zambia in Ndola due to a knock picked up in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on October 1.

Reports coming out of Success’ homeland later claimed that the Football Federation doubted that he had picked up a dead leg severe enough to rule him out of their squad.

There were also suggestions that they could invoke a FIFA rule to stop him playing for the Hornets at Middlesbrough on Sunday if it was deemed he avoided international duty on purpose.

But spokesman for the NFF, Oluwatoyin Ibitoye, has moved to deny the claims and told the Watford Observer:

“The news we got was that he [Success] got a dead leg in Watford’s last game, and asked to be excused from our World Cup qualifying game away to Ndola. “We have no reason to doubt what Watford and the player tells us.”
