St Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey has survived despite being shot twice in the head in a shocking incident in Miami.
Bailey was reportedly in a car with three relatives at the time of the shooting during a trip back to his home city. He has been described as “critical but stable” after the attack. His life is not thought to be in danger, though he was scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old was a passenger in the car, whose driver – believed to be Bailey’s cousin – was shot multiple times and is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The cousin is believed to have been shielding the other two people in the car – who were children – while he was gunned down, according to reports.

The Rams put out a statement on Tuesday night confirming the incident: “We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

Bailey has played eight matches so far this season, scoring one touchdown, but is currently serving a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
