Super Falcons

President Muhammadu Buhari has heaped praises on the Super Falcons of Nigeria after they defeated South Korea in a FIFA Women’s World Cup group game.

The Falcons, who lost their opening game of the tournament against Norway, bounced back to win 2-0 against Korea on matchday two.

An 29th-minute own goal by Korea’s Kim Doyeon and an excellent second-half finishing by Asisat Oshoala sealed the important victory for Nigeria.

It was a double celebration for Nigerians on Wednesday June 12, as back home, the giant of Africa was celebrating Democracy Day.

Moments after the game, Buhari took to his Twitter handle to celebrate the Thomas Dennerby crew and players.

The Falcons are still seeking to advance from the group, as they hope to fight against hosts France in their final group game next Monday.

Nigeria will have to prevent defeat in the game to keep hopes much alive of reaching the round of 16 of the tournament.

Oshoala was awarded the Player of Wednesday’s Match, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made a name for herself as the youngest goalie to have kept a clean sheet in the history of the glob showpiece.
